About the Role
As a Graphics Programmer at Savage Astronaut, you will play a key role in defining the visual identity of our game. You’ll build the rendering systems that bring our anime-inspired style to life.
This is a hands-on, exploratory role. You’ll work closely with artists and technical artists to turn visual direction into reality, often building custom solutions and pushing beyond standard pipelines to achieve a distinct look.
You’ll be responsible for finding the balance between expressive visuals, gameplay readability, and performance in a competitive multiplayer environment.
You Will
Design and implement rendering features that support a grounded, anime-inspired visual style
Develop and extend shader systems, lighting models, and post-processing pipelines
Collaborate closely with art and technical art to translate visual goals into real-time solutions
Prototype and explore new rendering techniques to achieve unique visual results
Optimize rendering performance for multiplayer scenarios across a range of hardware
Debug and improve visual quality, stability, and consistency
Contribute to the long-term architecture and direction of the rendering pipeline
We’re Looking For Someone Who
Has strong experience in real-time rendering and graphics programming
Is passionate about stylized visuals and interested in pushing beyond standard pipelines
Understands how rendering choices impact readability and player experience
Can balance visual ambition with performance and technical constraints
Thinks in systems and builds scalable, maintainable solutions
Brings ideas and technical vision to achieve new visual outcomes
Communicates effectively with artists and can translate artistic goals into technical solutions
Is proactive, curious, and comfortable taking ownership
Bonus Points
Experience working on stylized or non-photorealistic rendering, especially anime-inspired visuals
Experience modifying or extending Unreal Engine’s rendering pipeline
Strong shader development experience (HLSL, GLSL, etc.)
Experience with lighting models, post-processing, or custom rendering techniques
Experience optimizing rendering for real-time multiplayer games
Familiarity with GPU profiling and performance analysis tools
