UX / UI Designer

Design / Tokyo, Japan

Experience Level

Must have professional experience designing UI/UX for games (multiplayer experience strongly preferred)

Must have shipped at least one game

About the Role

As a UI/UX Designer at Savage Astronaut, you will shape how players understand and interact with the game at every moment. From high-pressure combat HUDs to progression and meta systems, your work will directly impact clarity, decision-making, and player confidence.

You Will

  • Design and iterate on in-game HUD, menus, and meta-progression interfaces

  • Translate complex gameplay systems into clear, intuitive UI flows

  • Balance strong visual identity with readability and usability under pressure

  • Prototype UI flows and interactions, testing and refining based on feedback

  • Collaborate closely with game design to align UI with gameplay intent and player experience goals

  • Help define and evolve the game’s graphic language and interface systems

  • Ensure consistency, clarity, and responsiveness across all UI elements

  • Work within engine tools to implement or support UI functionality

We’re Looking For Someone Who

  • Understands competitive readability and how players process information in high-pressure situations

  • Knows when to simplify, and when strong visual expression enhances clarity

  • Has a strong appreciation for grounded anime aesthetics, and can apply them with restraint

  • Thinks in systems—building UI that supports gameplay, not just decoration

  • Can translate design intent and player needs into clear, cohesive interface solutions

  • Brings ideas and visual direction, not just execution

  • Communicates clearly across disciplines and iterates effectively based on feedback

  • Is proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership

Bonus Points

  • Experience designing UI for multiplayer or competitive games

  • Experience with stylized or sci-fi interface design

  • Experience with prototyping tools (Figma, Unreal UMG, etc.)

  • Experience implementing UI in-engine or working closely with engineers on implementation

  • Experience designing for progression systems or complex gameplay loops

  • CV

  • Portfolio (must include UI/UX work and process)

  • Work Samples

  • Projects you have worked on, with your specific contributions clearly described

  • Types of UI you have designed (HUD, menus, systems, etc.)

  • Tools used (Figma, engine tools, prototyping tools, etc.) and how you used them

  • Experience collaborating with design, art, and engineering

Please also include (if available):

  • UI flows, wireframes, and final designs

  • Before/after iterations showing your process

  • Explanations of design decisions and how they support player experience
